5-HTP Extra Strength is a potent formula providing 200mg of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) per serving to support healthy mood and well-being. 5-HTP is commonly extracted from the plant species Griffonia simplicifolia, as well as being a primary metabolite of the amino acid L-tryptophan.
Despite L-tryptophan known for being a natural sedative, 5-HTP doesn’t necessarily induce drowsiness, but rather works to support relaxation and calmness. However, 5-HTP (at higher doses) may be useful for supporting sleep quality since some of it will be converted to melatonin.
5-HTP readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, and is effective for increasing serotonin levels in the brain.
